When my Grandpa was in WWII, he would send my Grandma letters from where he was stationed. Writing letters and sending them through the mail system took weeks, but it was the only way to talk to loved ones and be informed on what was going on over here in the States.
Today, my 87 year old Grandma, who lives in California, sends me messages on Facebook. My friends talk about Sunday’s NFL game and the upcoming weekend in College Sports. Everyday discussions are documented for everyone to see, and often times people chime in with their own opinion based on the ongoing conversation. Large corporations who once had Social Media sites banned for employees, are lifting those restrictions with the hopes of gaining business through their employee’s networks.
So what does my Grandma sending messages have anything to do with your business? EVERYTHING!!! If my 87 year old Grandma has a Facebook account, then you can better believe your potential client has one. Not only that, but you can believe that they are going to be searching the internet for all their needs.
With more than 24 million active members on Twitter, 300 million active members on Facebook, and an estimated 185 million accounts on Myspace. The opportunities to expand your business, advertise freely, and keep your clients informed, is not only endless, but its priceless.

Great topic, Casey! Word of Mouth is the most powerful marketing tool a business has, and networks like Facebook and Twitter facilitate conversations like no other medium. But it's up to the business to enable and inspire the conversation. Customers don't talk about mediocre experiences or the status quo. Give them a story to tell, provide a way to share it, and your customers will be your best sales force.
